Who are the signers of the “Manifesto”?
The authors of the “Manifesto,” whose backgrounds are outlined below, were psychologists, medical doctors, an anthropologist, and a biologist,
all of whom have been rejected by their colleagues in the mainstream of their fields!
Mario Beauregard, PhD is a neuroscientist with an interest in the spirituality of the brain. He is the author of two books. One is “The Spiritual Brain: A Neuroscientist’s Case for the Existence of the Soul,” about which we read “… it is God who creates our spiritual experiences, not the brain.” The other is “Brain Wars: The Scientific Battle Over the Existence of the Mind and the Proof That Will Change the Way We Live Our Lives,” in which – based only on anecdotal claims – Beauregard argues that out-of-body experience, clairvoyance, and near-death-experiences are manifestations of the soul, which can be studied only in the framework of a “post-materialist science.”
Gary E. Schwartz, PhD is a psychologist at the University of Arizona. In 2002, he received a $1.8 million award from the National Center on Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the NIH to create a Center for Frontier Medicine in Biofield Science (CFMBS) at UA. However, the findings at the center were “too controversial for mainstream journals.” Simon & Schuster, on the other hand, ignored the controversy and published the “findings” in Gary Schwartz’s book, “The Energy Healing Experiments” in 2007, the same year that CFMBS was closed down! Now Gary Schwarz is the director of Laboratory for Advances in Consciousness and Health (LACH), a supposedly research lab whose members are all psychologists with interest in mind-body and alternative medicine. Like other research labs, LACH has publications. What kind of publications? Clicking on the publications tab takes you to a page showing Gary Schwartz’s books such as “The G.O.D. Experiments,” all published by Simon & Schuster. Curiously, under Published Articles, (as of the writing of this post) you find three words “List added soon …”!
Lisa Miller, PhD is an educational psychologist and director of Spirituality Mind Body Institute at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Her scholarly interests include “Spirituality & Religion, basic science on spirituality, applied interventions using spirituality…”
Larry Dossey, MD is a medical doctor and author of ten books including “The Power of Premonitions: How Knowing the Future Can Shape Our Lives,” “Reinventing Medicine: Beyond Mind-Body to a New Era of Healing,” “Prayer is Good Medicine,” “Healing Words: The Power of Prayer and the Practice of Medicine,” and “Recovering the Soul: A Scientific and Spiritual Search.”
